Impaired, Roadside Refusal, Warrants, Vehicle Entries and Seatbelt Enforcement
Impaired Driver Arrested
A 28 year old woman was arrested and charged early Sunday morning after parking her vehicle at the wrong address. A concerned citizen contacted the police when they noticed the vehicle parked at their address with a female allegedly slumped behind the wheel. Officers arrived to find the women in the same state. During the investigation it was believed that the female was impaired by alcohol and was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance. After being arrested the female provided 2 samples of her breath, both nearly 2.5 times the legal limit. Her driver’s license has now been suspended for a period of 90 days, her vehicle impounded for 7 days. The woman was released from custody with a future court date after sobering up. ST24005012
Seatbelt Lane Leads to Charges
Officers conducting a spot check for seatbelt usage in the citie’s north-end were surprised when a vehicle quickly did a u-turn and attempted to flee. Officers caught up with the vehicle a short distance away and learned that the 28 year old driver was prohibited from from doing so (as a result of a court imposed penalty). It was also learned that the vehicle he had been operating had been taken without the owner’s consent. The man was taken into custody at the scene and later released with a future court date and fingerprint date. ST24005022
Vehicle Entry Overnight
Another reminder is being issued to the public to lock their vehicles when not in use. This after a citizen reported leaving their vehicle unlocked overnight and now missing numerous items that were left inside. A fishing pole, tackle box and jewelry were reported missing. ST24005032
Traffic Stop leads to Roadside Refusal
A 74 year old St. Thomas man that had been stopped for speeding has had his vehicle impounded and license suspended. The man had allegedly been speeding when officers conducted a traffic stop. When speaking to the man, the officer suspected the man had been consuming alcoholic beverages. When the officer demanded the driver submit to a roadside screening device, the man refused. Refusing to provide a sample at the roadside is a criminal offence and carries the same penalty as failing a roadside. ST24005043
Warrant Arrest and Drug Seizure
A 39 year old St. Thomas man is back in custody after being arrested on the strength of a Bench Warrant. The man was found early Monday morning by officers on general patrol and taken into custody. After his arrest and subsequent search a small amount of drugs were found in his possession. The man was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday Court. ST24005062
