Media Release – 31st of March 2024

Stolen Vehicle

On Saturday the 30th of March 2024 a St Thomas resident awoke to find that her cell phone, debit card and vehicle were missing after allowing an out-of-town family member to stay the night at her residence. Police attended and formed grounds to lay charges. A 30 year old resident of the Kitchener-Waterloo area is currently wanted for theft under $5000, and theft of motor vehicle. A warrant for his arrest has been applied for. Incident ST24004957.

Attempt theft of motor vehicle (x2):

On Saturday Morning Police were contacted to attend an apartment building in the south end of the city for reports of an attempted vehicle theft. Unknown persons smashed the rear window of the vehicle and the steering column was damaged. The matter is under investigation. On Saturday an officer on general patrol located another vehicle in the west end of the city that appeared to have been damaged in an attempt to steal it. The rear window had been smashed and the steering column damaged. The owner of the vehicle was notified of the incident. Police are investigating the string of attempted thefts. Break and Enter:

On Saturday Police were contacted to attend a local financial institution for report of tampering with an ATM by a service technician. It was discovered that an ATM had been broken into by someone with knowledge of the model’s design and cash was stolen. Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit and Property Crime Unit attended and are investigating the matter. Theft:

On Saturday evening Police were called to an east end business for the report of two female shoplifters. Police attended and learned that two females youths had taken $137.00 in store merchandise. Video was obtained of the incident and the matter is under investigation. Warrant Arrest:

On Saturday evening Sarnia Police Service arrested a 32 year old St Thomas resident on a warrant held by our Police Service. The male was transported to the St Thomas Station and held for weekend court. The male was later released by the courts with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST24005007.

Impaired Driving:

In the early morning hours on Sunday the 31st of March 2024 Police were contacted by a concerned citizen who noted a female that appeared to be sleeping in her vehicle in the roadway. Police attended and found a female asleep behind the wheel with the vehicle in gear. Grounds were formed to arrest the female for impaired operation and she was transported to the station where she later provided samples of her breath that showed her blood alcohol level to be more than double the legal limit. The 28 year old St Thomas resident was released when sober with a future court date, charged impaired operation and operate in excess of 80mgs. Incident ST24005012.
