Police Week is an annual recognition week that focuses on increasing community awareness and acknowledgement of police services, while strengthening partnerships between police and those they serve.
The provincial theme for 2023 is “Building Bridges: Celebrating Police – Community Partnerships”
A partnership program the St. Thomas Police is proud to share is our Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics engages law enforcement worldwide, championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities starting first with their own communities. Through the partnership of LETR and Special Olympics, we provide opportunities for athletes to empower and transform themselves, their communities and the world. LETR is changing the future for people with intellectual disabilities and lighting the way for acceptance and inclusion.
Special Olympic Ontario is the charity of choice for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.
Locally, STPS has a strong relationship with our Special Olympic athletes. We engage with them through the Torch Run, Polar Plunge and various sporting events. Our athletes demonstrate perseverance, strength and determination daily. Interacting with our athletes is one of the most rewarding aspects of our policing professions.
