St. Thomas Police are investigating a scam which emerged on a major social media platform where a St. Thomas resident responded to a pop-up add and is now out $200 000. The scam involved an employment opportunity if the applicant submitted $100 000. The incident evolved and the applicant was scammed out of another $100 000. This incident is being investigated by the criminal investigations branch. Ref#ST23014292.

St. Thomas Police officers were responding to an unrelated call for service when they came across a 42-year-old St. Thomas resident who was presently wanted on an arrest warrant. Officers took this person into custody and was later released with a court date and conditions to abide by.

Employees of a downtown restaurant observed some clothing tags from a nearby clothing store on their bathroom floor and deemed it suspicious and notified the St. Thomas Police. As a result, officers attended the area and located a person who fit the description. This 36-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested on the strength of a probation warrant and later released with a court date. No stolen items were found with the arrested person. Ref#ST23014313.

A loss prevention officer from a retail outlet at the 1063 Talbot Street shopping center notified police of a shoplifter. Police attended the area and were able to identify a suspect via video surveillance. A 37-year-old Chatham resident is presently wanted in relation to this theft. Under investigation. Ref#St23014319

The St. Thomas Police Service conducted a R.I.D.E. spot check at multiple locations within the city. The R.I.D.E check resulted in 270 drivers being checked for sobriety, three roadside breath tests were conducted where drivers passed the test, and one roadside breath test which resulted in a 62-year-old St. Thomas resident being charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. This person was arrested, brought to the police station which resulted in additional breath tests and a future court date. The driver was automatically suspended from driving for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. Ref#ST23014328.
