Highway Traffic Act

A 23 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Friday August 11th, 2023 St. Thomas police were advised of a traffic complaint on Wellington Street. Officers on community patrol attended the area and located the vehicle and its driver. Through investigation, it was learned the driver was operating the vehicle unlicensed and the ownership and insurance had expired. In addition, the plates on the vehicle returned unauthorized. As a result, a 23 year old was charged with one count Operate Vehicle without Insurance, Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle – no license. The plates were seized and the vehicle towed. ST23014235

Explosion

On Friday August 11th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to an address on St. Catherines Street to assist St. Thomas Fire and EMS with what was reported as an explosion. Upon arrival, it was learned that an accidental explosion had occurred when residents of the address spilled butane fluid while refilling a lighter. Unaware of the spilled fluid, another resident lit a cigarette in the same area resulting in the explosion. Minor injuries were reported as a result with no major damage to the residence. ST23014258

Arrested

A 33 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Saturday August 12th, 2023 officers on community patrol located the 33 year old who was wanted by our service for one count of Theft under $5000 from an incident first reported to STPS on August 1st. The St. Thomas resident was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23014272

A 59 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Saturday August 12th, 2023 officers on community patrol located the 59 year old who was wanted by our service for one count of Indecent Act in a Public Place. The St. Thomas resident was arrested and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST23014281

A 43 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday August 13th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to a local retail store for the report of a suspected shoplift in progress. Upon arrival, police located the individual in question who at the time was not shoplifting but was known to police to have an outstanding warrant for arrest for Theft under $5,000 and Failure to Comply with Release Order from an incident in April. The 43 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23014311

A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday August 13th, 2023 officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime from an incident reported to police on August 7th. The 41 year old was processed and released on an appearance notice. ST23014367

A 30 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday August 14th, 2023 officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service for Theft under $5,000 after an incident in which they were identified as the person responsible for stealing sunglasses and jewelry from a retail store in the city on the previous day. The 30 year old was processed and a release on an appearance notice. ST23014373

A 52 year old Southwold resident has been arrested. On Monday August 14th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for the report of an unwanted person. Upon arrival, police located the 52 year old known to police to be wanted by our service for one count Transportation Fraud after an incident with a local taxi service in September 2022. The 52 year old was transported to police headquarters where they were held for court. ST23014378

Break and Enter

$240 and a credit card have been reported stolen from a home on Churchill Crescent. On Saturday August 12th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to investigate the incident after a resident reports a screen had been removed and their belongings taken. This remains under investigation. ST23014285

Theft

A black CCM mountain bike has been reported stolen. On Sunday August 13th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to investigate the theft that had occurred from a downtown retail store while the bike owner was shopping. STPS are reviewing available video surveillance and continue to investigate. ST23014345

Assault

A 45 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday August 14th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called by EMS for an individual bleeding from the head after being struck with an object. Upon arrival, police located two individuals known to each other, arguing in front of a home on the north side of the city.  Through investigation, police formed grounds to charge the 45 year old with one count of Assault with a Weapon. The St. Thomas resident was transported to police headquarters, processed and released on an undertaking with a future court day. The victim was treated for minor injuries. ST23014376
