Impaired by Drug

A 55 year old London man has been charged after police located a driver asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle on Sunset Drive Monday morning. Just after 8:00 a.m., police were flagged down regarding a vehicle stopped on the side of the road with a man asleep in the driver’s seat while the vehicle was running and in drive.

Police woke the driver who was showing several signs of impairment. The driver registered a zero on an approved screening device, and police formed grounds to believe his ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by drugs. It was learned the man was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle and was bound by release conditions not to have care or control of a vehicle or occupy the driver’s seat.

As a result, the 55 year old has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired by drug
  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order
  • Operation while Prohibited
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance

Once processed, the accused appeared in court via video and was remanded into custody. ST26014842

Arrest in Robbery Investigation

A 38 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following a robbery investigation that began Saturday evening.  The victim reports while talking with two individuals at an address on Talbot Street, he was grabbed by the shirt and had a quantity of cash stolen from his hands. The accused fled the area before police arrived. Review of CCTV in the area was conducted, identifying the accused.

On Monday evening, police located the 38 year old downtown and took him into custody. Charged with one count of Robbery with Theft, he was transported to police headquarters, processed and held to attend court. ST26014889/4764

Intimate Partner Violence

A 32 year old St. Thomas woman has been arrested following an investigation into an assault that occurred on Sunday. Through investigation, officers learned that the victim had been struck in the face during a verbal altercation with the accused. Charged with one count of Assault, she was arrested Monday evening. Once processed, she was released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26014882

Collision Results in Charges

A 23 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following a collision at an intersection on Talbot Street Monday afternoon.

Just before 5 p.m. a vehicle entered the intersection and struck another vehicle that was turning onto Pearl Street. The driver stopped briefly, however left the area. Members of the STPS were in the area at the time and witnessed the collision. While still in the area, the driver returned on foot. He was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of a collision. Through investigation, police learned the man was prohibited from driving under two separate licence suspensions.

He was issued summonses for:

  • Careless Driving
  • Fail to Remain
  • Two counts of Driving While Under Suspension

The vehicle was impounded for seven days. Once processed, he was released. ST26014868

Fraud Arrest

A 46 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. On Monday, the individual attended police headquarters to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant for Fraud over $5,000 following an investigation from November. Once processed, he was released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26014866/ST25020995

Fail to Stop

STPS are investigating after the operator of a motorcycle failed to stop for officers Monday afternoon. While on an unrelated call for service on Chestnut Street, officers located a red motorcycle with a paper licence plate. Attempts were made to contact the registered owner. A short time later, an unknown individual wearing a motorcycle helmet approached and started the motorcycle. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop however, the operator accelerated away from police and failed to stop. CCTV in the area is being reviewed as this remains under investigation. ST26014855

Unlawfully in a Dwelling

A 38 year old St. Thomas man has been charged after police responded to a report of an unknown individual inside a residence at a west end address. Officers attended the address and observed both the rear yard door and patio door open. When called out by police, the 38 year old exited the residence. Through investigation, police confirmed with property management that no one was authorized to attend the residence. Charged with one count of Unlawfully in a Dwelling, the individual was transported to police headquarters, processed for court and was remanded into custody. ST26014847

Mischief

Police are investigating after a window was damaged at a residence on Erie Street, Sunday evening. It was reported that a loud bang was heard around midnight and a hole was later discovered in the front window. A small rock was located inside the residence. This remains under investigation. Theft

$300 of merchandise has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Monday night, police were called after two unknown individuals failed to pay for several bedding items. The pair were last seen leaving the area in an SUV, prior to police arrival. Video has been provided to police. ST26014875

Vehicle Entry

A wallet containing personal identification and health cards, a visa gift card and several miscellaneous cards has been reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Barnes Street. Police are working to obtain footage from a nearby properties at the time. ST26014860
