Theft by power of attorney:
On Sunday the 2nd of August 2026 we were contacted by members of the RCMP in Alberta who had taken a statement from a resident in that province related to an incident that occurred in St Thomas. The complainant believes that while his mother was residing in a care home in the city another family member convinced her to sign power of attorney documents and then began to siphon money out of her accounts. The matter has been sent to our criminal investigations unit and is currently under investigation. Incident ST26014787.
Stolen property recovered:
We received a call from Elgin OPP that they had recovered a license plate from a red Dodge RAM reported stolen to us on the 1st of August 2026 (ST26014667). The OPP had stopped a second stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction, arrested the driver, and located a single license plate inside the stolen vehicle search incident to arrest. The investigation will continue into the vehicle reported to our service including this new information. Incident ST26014790.
Fail to comply with undertaking/Obstruct Peace Officer:
Officers on general patrol stopped to check on the wellbeing of a male and female observed slumped over in a parking lot during the heavy rain. The female initially provided a false name and was later positively identified through investigation. The 34-year-old female was found to be currently bound by a release from Elgin OPP related to assaulting the male, and had conditions not to associate with him. The female was arrested, transported to cells and held for weekend video court, charged fail to comply with undertaking and obstruct peace officer. Incident ST26014803.
