Traffic stop leads to warrant arrest and drug seizure 

A 44 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Wednesday February 7th 2024, officers on community patrol observed an individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with our service for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fraud under $5,000 stemming from an incident in July of 2023. The individual was observed operating an e-bike although prohibited from doing so due to a previous disqualified driving conviction. A traffic stop was initiated and the 44 year old was arrested on strength of our warrant. The individual was transported to police headquarters to be processed on the charges. Through investigation and while being processed, police located approximately 60 grams of suspected Fentanyl valued at $15,225 and 21 grams of suspected Methamphetamine valued at $2,170. As a result, the 44 year old has been charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. The individual was held for a morning court appearance. ST24001945

Impaired Operation

A 23 year old Port Stanley resident has been arrested. On Wednesday February 7th 2024, officers on community observed a vehicle being driven at high rate of speed within the city. The vehicle was stopped and a traffic stop conducted. Through investigation police formed grounds to believe the driver was impaired and the request for a standard field sobriety test was made. The 23 year old driver performed poorly and was arrested. The individual was transported to police headquarters where further testing conclude the individual was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the 23 year old has been charged with Operation while Impaired – 80 plus. Their license has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for 7 days. ST24001947

Fraud 

A local resident is out $48,000 after falling victim to an online trading scam. On Wednesday February 7th 2024, the victim contacted STPS to report the fraud that began in November 2023 when they were contacted by a Crypto Investment company. Over the course of the last several weeks the victim, who was under the assumption they were making money transfers and trades with a legitimate company, had transferred a total of $48,000. This remains under investigation. ST24001912

On Wednesday February 7th 2024, St. Thomas police were contacted by Calgary Police who were wishing to connect with our service in regard to an ongoing romance scam they had been investigating. Officers learned the victim, a St. Thomas resident was out approximately $70,000 after several transfers and transactions between the victim and an individual after they met online in 2021. This remains under investigation. ST24001915

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigate a theft that occurred from Talbot Street retail store on Wednesday February 7th 2024. Police were called by staff of the store who wished to report that approximately 3:30 p.m. an unknown person enter the store, selected a bottle of liquor valued at $107 and left the store, making no attempt to pay. Warrant arrest

A 37 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Wednesday February 7th 2024, officers were called to Talbot Street address to address the complaint of an unwanted person. Upon arrival, police located the 37 year old known to them to be wanted on an outstanding probation warrant for failing to comply with their release order. The individual was processed and released on appearance notice. ST24001939
