Media Release for New Year’s Day 2024

Assault

On Sunday December 31st, a St. Thomas man attended the police station to report an altercation that occurred the previous night at a local restaurant. Investigation revealed the male had gotten into a dispute with a person known to him and ultimately pushed the victim to the floor causing a minor injury. The assault was captured by video. The man was arrested for Assault, processed and later released with a future court date. ST23022758

Shoplift

On Sunday morning, police attended a Talbot St business for reports of a shoplifter. A male party concealed two electronic devices in his coat and left the store without paying. Police are reviewing video surveillance footage to identify the suspect. ST23022759

Mischief

A 38 year old St. Thomas man is wanted by police after tying the front doors of the police station closed with a blanket, preventing other members of the public from entering or exiting the building. Police reviewed video from the police station and identified the suspect. He is charged with one count of Mischief Under $5000 for interfering with the lawful use of the property. ST23022767

Assault

An 18 year old St. Thomas female was charged with Assault yesterday following an incident that occurred at a public building. The female kicked an employee of the building without provocation. Police arrested the female without incident and transported her to police headquarters where she was processed and later released with a future court date. ST23022768

Assault

On Sunday evening police were called to a residence in the southwest end of the City for reports of a family dispute. Police attended and spoke to all involved parties. As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old St. Thomas male was arrested for two counts of Assault. The male was transported to police headquarters where he was later released with a future court date. ST23022789

Refuse to Provide Breath Sample

Later on Sunday evening, police were called regarding a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle and the 56 year old male driver as he was arriving home. The driver was uncooperative and refused to provide a breath sample when he was lawfully demanded to do so. As a result, the male was arrested for Refuse to Provide Breath Sample. The male was released from the scene on an Appearance Notice. ST23022794

Break and Enter

Shortly before 3am on January 1st, police were called to a downtown business for reports of an insecure door. Police attended and found the door had been forced open and the power was turned off, disabling the security cameras. The suspect(s) left with an unknown quantity of liquor.
