Media release 9th of December 2023

Harassment:

On Friday the 8th of December 2023 the St Thomas Police Service was contacted by a female complainant who reported repeated unwanted communications, via several formats, from a previous partner. Through investigation Police formed grounds to charge a 38 year old St Thomas male with criminal harassment. A warrant is being sought for his arrest. Incident ST23021616.

Theft:

On Friday the 8th the Police were contacted to attend the local LCBO regarding the theft of a number of bottles of high end champagne. A male and female had attended the store and stole several bottles of alcohol totaling over $500.00. Video is being obtained and the matter is under investigation. Break and enter to shed:

On the 8th of December a north end resident reported unknown persons had entered the unlocked shed in their rear yard. Approximately $3000.00 of yard equipment and various tools were taken. The matter is currently under investigation. We would like to remind the members of the community regarding taking steps towards protecting their property – such as CCTV cameras, motion sensor lights and sturdy locks. Theft from vehicle:

On the 8th of December a resident in the north end of the city noted that tools had been taken from a tool box located in the bed of their pickup truck.  Approximately $1000.00 in mixed tools had been taken. The matter is currently under investigation. Warrant arrest:

Overnight on the 8th of December 2023 officers on general patrol located a 17 year old youth that they knew to be wanted on two outstanding warrants held by the St Thomas Police Service. The male youth was arrested and transported to the station to await weekend video court. Incident ST23021667.

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
