Media release – 20th of February 2024

Mischief to property:

Sometime overnight On Saturday the 17th of February 2024 unknown person(s) spray painted graffiti on a south end School. The graffiti entailed differing racial and homophobic slurs. The matter is under investigation and video is being obtained of the incident. Theft:

On Sunday the 18th of February a local resident contacted the Police to report that his e-bike had been stolen from outside of a downtown establishment. The e-bike is described as being a red and white Eco brand with duct tape on the front. Warrant Arrests:

On Saturday morning staff at an east end business reported a female in the washroom of the store that was intoxicated. Police attended and learned that the 40 year old Aylmer resident was wanted on a warrant held by Oxford OPP. The female was arrested on the strength of the warrant and later turned over to officers from the OPP. Incident ST24002562.

On Saturday evening officers were called to a south end residence by a male who reported unknown persons banging on the front door to the residence. Investigation showed the call appeared to be unfounded however the male was wanted on a warrant held by the St Thomas Police Service. The male was arrested and released at the scene with a new court date. Incident ST24002586.

Break and Enter:

On Saturday afternoon a custodian at a south end church reported damage to an exterior window and signs that entry had been made to the church. Investigation showed that entry had been made to the church by unknown suspects- an inventory was taken and at this time it appears that nothing was stolen. Domestic Assault:

On Saturday evening a concerned citizen contacted the St Thomas Police Service to report an ongoing verbal altercation between a female driving a car and a male walking on foot. Police attended and located both parties. Through investigation it was learned that the 20 year old female had assaulted the male during a heated argument. The female was arrested and charged with one count of domestic assault and later released with conditions. Incident ST24002579.

Mischief:

On Saturday evening Police were called to a downtown restaurant for reports of graffiti being sprayed on the back wall of the establishment. Police attended and located several instances of new graffiti. Video was checked and showed a male suspect had attended and painted the wall overnight on the previous evening. The matter is under investigation. In the early morning hours on Sunday the 19th of February 2024 the St Thomas Police were called to attend a family dispute. During the incident Police learned that the 17 year old male that was causing issues in the home was wanted on an outstanding warrant held by the St Thomas Police Service. The male youth was arrested and held for court in the morning where he was later remanded into custody. Incident ST23002589.
