Media release – 15th of October 2023

Fraud:

On the 14th of October 2023 a local resident reported being defrauded of $1300.00 on their credit card. The matter is under investigation but it appears as if a third party had applied for a secondary card on the account – utilized to make cash advances. Video is being obtained related to the incident and the matter is under investigation. Incident ST23018238.

Break and Enter:

On the 14th of October 2023 a local church reported that a break and enter to the building had occurred overnight. Stolen was various property belonging to the church. Police attended and reviewed video footage that showed two males entering the building on two separate occasions overnight. Through investigation both males were identified and later arrested the same afternoon. A 67 year old St Thomas resident was charged with two counts of break and enter and mischief under $5000. This male party was later released on conditions. The co-accused, a 33 year old St Thomas resident, was arrested and charged with two counts of break and enter, mischief under $5000, and two counts of fail to comply with probation. This male was held for weekend bail court. Some of the outstanding property was recovered by Police and returned to the Church. Incident ST23018244.

Warrant arrests:

On the 14th of October the St Thomas Police Service were contacted to attend a south end location for concern of a male acting oddly in the area. On arrival the officers recognized the male as currently being wanted on an outstanding warrant. The 44 year old male spoken to regarding his well-being, arrested on the warrant and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. Incident ST23018252.

On the evening of the 14th of October Police were called to a local licensed establishment regarding a disturbance between two males. On arrival Police broke up the disturbance and while doing so discovered that one of the males was currently wanted on a warrant held by the Elgin County OPP. The 30 year old St Thomas resident was arrested on the warrant and taken to the Elgin OPP detachment. Incident ST23018271.

On the evening of the 14th of October the Aylmer Police Service advised they had a male youth in custody that was currently wanted on warrants held by both the Aylmer Police Service and the St Thomas Police Service. The male was transported to the St Thomas Police Service and held overnight for weekend bail court on both warrants. Incident St23018275.
