Media release – 14th of October 2023

Fraud:

On the 13th of October 2023 a local resident reported being defrauded during a transaction for an appliance on Facebook marketplace. The victim had transferred money to the seller prior to arranging to see the item. Through investigation it was revealed that the seller’s account had been hacked into, they were locked out of their account themselves, and the account was being used to make fraudulent listings. The St Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community to take steps to protect themselves during online purchases on local marketplaces such as Facebook and Kijiji – physically view the item before sending payment for example– and that there is a safe community exchange location in the public lot at the St Thomas Police Services that is monitored by camera for these purposes. Break and Enter:

On the 13th of October a homeowner in the south end of the city had noted their garage had been broken into – most likely between the 10th and 11th of October. Entry was made by forcing open the side man door of the garage. Stolen was a white Schwinn Network 3.0 sport bike and a black golf bag with “St Thomas Golf and Country Club” on the side. Warrant arrest:

On Friday the 13th of October the Middlesex OPP arrested a 36 year old female wanted on a warrant out of St Thomas. The female was transported to St Thomas Police Service headquarters and held for court- and was later released by the courts. Incident ST23018165.

Mischief:

On the 13th of October a resident in the south end of the city reported a window damaged on their vehicle while parked in the driveway. It appeared that sometime during the afternoon an unknown person threw a small rock through the passenger side window. Stolen plates:

On the 13th of October 2023 a resident in the south end of the city noted that the front and rear licence plates missing from his vehicle. The plates have been reported missing to the Ministry of Transportation. The matter is under investigation. Theft of Amazon packages:

On the 13th of October 2023 Police received several complaints from tenants in a multi-residential building that they were missing deliveries that had been left on their respective apartment door steps. Video is being obtained from the building manager and the matter is under investigation. The suspect is described as female, brain hair worn in a bun, wearing sunglasses, a dark coat and green backpack and walking with a cane. Mischief:

During the evening hours of the 13th of October the St Thomas Police Service took a report of broken windows at a building downtown. Video has been obtained and the matter is under investigation.
