Road Safety Initiatives update from St. Thomas Police Service:

The St. Thomas Police Service actively responds to traffic complaints received and conducts enforcement in areas of the City to promote public safety.

The following traffic projects are now completed with the results reported as an update.

 

ST23000916 –Traffic project to address speed along Elm St  between First Ave and Wilson Ave.

Results:

18 reports from officers resulting in 3 Provincial offence charges

 

ST23000917 –Traffic project to address Speeding on Fairview Ave between Chestnut St and Elm St.

Results:

18 reports from officers resulting in 10 Provincial offence charges

 

SHOPLIFT

On Thursday January 26 at approximately 3:50 PM Officers on Community Patrol were called to the area of a drug store on Edward Street. A male and female were observed running out of the store exit with a gift bag filled with merchandise. The anti-theft alarms were triggered which led staff to suspect the parties had stolen the products. A staff member updated police on their location. Officers quickly attended the area and formed a perimeter where the parties were last seen for a canine search. The parties were located at 4:05 PM hiding in a garbage dumpster along with the stolen merchandise. The parties surrendered themselves to police and were arrested without further incident.  The two 19 year old’s were transported to the Colin McGregor Building for processing.  They were charged with Theft under $5,000.  They were later released with a future court date.  ST23001420

THEFT

Officers on Community Patrol attended a business on Wellington Street after a staff member reported that while they were at work on January 25th, the catalytic converter from their Ford Escape was stolen.  ST23001429

WARRANT

Yesterday a 33 year old male attended the Elgin County Courthouse for court.  The male was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  Court Officers arrested him without  incident.  He was later released with a future court date.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLES

Yesterday in early morning hours Officers on Community Patrol located an abandoned U Haul truck in the parking lot at a church on Elm Street.  The ignition was missing.  It was later reported stolen from a Gas Station in the city, where they located a stolen U Haul truck, that had been stolen from London.  Video surveillance show the stolen truck from London entered the gas station parking lot on January 25th at 10:15pm.  It was left behind and the driver was seen entering the new U Haul and driving away.  The investigation is continuing.  ST23001388.

FAIL TO COMPLY/WARRANT/ASSAULT

Officers on Community Patrol were called to a Scott Street address last night for a report from residents inside that there was a family dispute occurring.  As a result a male youth was arrested on an outstanding warrant, he resisted arrest, assaulted Police and was found to be in contravention of conditions of his Release Order.  The 16 year old was transported to the Colin McGregor Building for processing.  He was charged with Fail to Comply with his Undertaking, Assault Police x 3 and Resist Arrest.  He was later released with a future court date.
