Dog Scam – Fraud
On Friday St. Thomas Police Service was contacted regarding yet another puppy scam. This time the victim responded to an add over Facebook Marketplace for puppies available near you. The scam, as in the past involves money being transferred then additional costs incurring as a result of transportation and pet insurance. The victim in this matter is now out in excess of $500. Police are asking the public to be aware of these sorts of scams and are asked to contact police should suspicions arise in the future with similar concerns. Debit Card Fraud
A St. Thomas woman contacted police on Friday after she learned of several fraudulent transactions on her debit card. The debit card, which was suspected to be stolen, had been used a various locations around the city, including retailers at the Elgin Center. After learning of the purchases, the victim quickly cancelled her card before incurring more charges. It is suspected that the culprits may have been captured on video. This matter is currently under investigation. ST23011540
Service Ontario Registration Fraud
A 50 year old Cambridge man has been arrested following an investigation into some fraudulent vehicle registrations. Staff at the Service Ontario Elgin Mall contacted St. Thomas police on Friday with concerns about the man attempting to register 2 vehicles. The same individual had previously attended attempting to do the same, this time alerting staff and raising suspicions. In this case the vehicle registrations were found to be fraudulent and as such the male has been charged with 2 counts of uttering a forged document. The male was arrested and later released with a future court date. ST23011546
Mischief at RBC
Patrons using an ATM at Royal Bank on Talbot Street, contacted St. Thomas Police Service on Saturday reporting damage to an interior entry door. Officers arrived on scene to find the interior door to be smashed. The bank was checked with the use of K9 Axle and cleared. The bank’s video was reviewed and a lone male suspect can be seen smashing the glass with what appeared to be a hammer. Youth Assaults Officers
A St. Thomas youth has been taken into custody following a disturbance at their residence early Sunday morning. The youth, who cannot be named, has been charged with Assaulting 2 officers and resisting arrest. The youth appeared by video through the Weekend and Statutory Holiday Court yesterday and was remanded into custody. That youth will appear in St. Thomas Court on Tuesday. ST23011675
London Police Arrest Wanted St. Thomas Man
London Police contacted St. Thomas Police early Saturday advising that 50 year old, Jason Taylor was currently in custody in London and wanted by St. Thomas. St. Thomas’ arrest warrant was executed on Taylor while in London’s custody. He was released on an Undertaking with conditions and a future court date. ST23011692
Impaired Driver Arrested following Collision
St. Thomas Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision Sunday night at the city’s Sunset Road and Wellington Road roundabout. During the investigation it was learned that one of driver’s was suspected to be impaired. After completing Standard Field Sobriety Tests and performing poorly, a 29 year old London man was taken into custody. The man was brought to the St. Thomas Police Station where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Evaluator. After undergoing several tests the man was charged with Impaired Operation of a conveyance. The male was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after officers located 4 types of Opiod’s on his person. The male was later released with a future court date. ST23011720
Wanted
St. Thomas man, Chris Menard age 40, is wanted again by the St. Thomas Police Service. Menard’s whereabouts are unknown at this time and police are actively seeking him to arrest.
