Impaired Operation
A 67 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested following a traffic stop in the city last night. At approximately 7:45 p.m., police received several 911 calls reporting a possible impaired driver entering St. Thomas. Officers were provided with a description of the vehicle, which was subsequently located and stopped. While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. A roadside alcohol screening device was administered, resulting in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where further testing confirmed a blood alcohol concentration of 130 mg/100 ml. The accused has been charged with one count of Operation While Impaired – 80 Plus and was released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST25018834
RIDE
Of the 150 vehicles stopped and their drivers spoken to during a RIDE event in the city last night, we are pleased to report no infractions were found. STPS wishes to thank the community for continuing to drive safe and sober. ST25018838
Break and Enter
St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report of a residential break and enter. Early this morning while on general patrol, officers found a window to a residence under construction smashed. The owner of the building was contacted and the building was cleared by police. Approximately $6,000 of tools inside the address were stolen. This remains under investigation. ST25018848
Mischief
A 48 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count of Mischief after police were called to an address on Queen Street, Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers located the individual who had caused significant damage to the property. The 48 year old was processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. A vehicle parked at an address on Wellington Street has been reported damaged. On Sunday, we were called to the area to investigate the report of a vehicle be keyed. Upon arrival, officers learned the damaged occurred at some point in the overnight hours. CCTV in the area is being reviewed as we continue to investigate. ST25018730
A vehicle parked at an address on Hincks Street has been reported damaged. On Monday, we were called to the area to investigate the report of the tires being slashed. A home security camera captured an unknown individual attending the address and damaging the vehicle. The video is being provided to police. ST25018783
Theft
Several items of clothing and general merchandise have been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Sunday, we were called to the store to investigate the report of an unknown person failing to pay for their items. CCTV of the incident is available and being provided to police. ST25018723
A hammock has been reported stolen from an address on Metcalfe Street. On Monday afternoon, police were called to the area after a front porch camera captured an unknown individual stealing the hammock from the address. The video has been provided to police. ST25018795
Warrant Arrest
A 34 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday, we were notified by Elgin OPP that they had the individual in their custody on the strength of our outstanding warrant for one count of Criminal Harassment, stemming from an incident in September. Custody was exchanged and the 34 year old was transported to STPS Headquarters, processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST25018718/15287
A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday evening, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Comply with Release Order. Fraud
A local resident is out $6,000 after falling victim to a scam. On Monday, the victim contacted police to report that through a series of phone calls from an individual posing as an employee of the fraud department for the victim’s bank, they had ultimately been scammed out of $6,000.
