St. Thomas, ON – Wednesday September 10th 2025
A 30 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after we were called to investigate the report of a suspicious person.
At 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday September 10th, it was reported that an unknown individual was seen on Myrtle Street attempting to enter vehicles. A description of the person was provided by the caller. Officers attended the area and located 30 year old, David Hamilton in possession of several items of various property and multiple small knives. Through investigation, officers learned the individual is currently on release conditions to not be in possession of any weapons.
As a result, Hamilton was charged with one count of Trespass by Night and four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order and transported to police headquarters. ST25016376
Hamilton is known to police as a prolific property crime offender, having been charged numerous times with similar offences.
Additional charges were laid while being processed at police headquarters this morning, after he was identified as the person responsible in a vehicle entry investigation that began on September 7th. On that date, an employee of a restaurant on Wellington Street reported their vehicle had been entered and their property taken while they were at work. ST25015584
As a result of this investigation, 30 year old David Hamilton was charged with:
- Five counts of Failure to Comply with Probation
- One count of Theft Under $5,000
Hamilton was processed on all charges, attended court and was remanded into custody.
Police have obtained several items of stolen property as a result of this arrest and are asking residents who live in the encompassing blocks of Ross Street to Wellington Street to First Avenue to Chestnut Street and back to Ross Street, to contact police to collect any property you may be missing as result of a vehicle entry or someone on your property.
