St. Thomas, ON – Wednesday July 9th 2025
The St. Thomas Police Association with support from the St. Thomas Police Service is excited to announce the return of the Kids Fishing Derby, a free community event taking place on Thursday, July 10th at Pinafore Pond in Pinafore Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This much-loved event is back after a several year hiatus and offers children and families the chance to enjoy a day outdoors, connect with police in a fun and relaxed setting and experience the joys of fishing, many for the first time.
The derby is free to attend and open to children 16 and under. No fishing license is required. A free hot dog lunch and drink will be provided for all participating children and some prizes will be awarded.
“We’re thrilled to bring this event back to the community,” says Paul Tunks, President of the St. Thomas Police Association. “It’s an opportunity to build positive relationships with youth, create great memories for families, and promote outdoor activity and conservation.”
The event is proudly supported by the Police Association of Ontario and the Canadian Tire Kids ‘n Cops Program supported by the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting recreational fishing for all Canadians, and by the generous financial contribution of Canadian Tire.
Thanks to the support of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) loaner fishing gear will be available on site for those who need it through the TackleShare program.
Volunteers and members of the St. Thomas Police will be on hand throughout the day to assist.
