Media release – 21st of June 2025

Mischief:

On the morning of Friday the 20th of June, we were contacted by City staff who reported damage to a tree planted at the corner of Talbot and White Street. It appears that someone intentional pulled the tree over by its branches damaging it to the point it had to be removed/destroyed. The value of the tree was $1300 to replace for taxpayers. City Staff also reported damage to a solar powered light installed along the Whistle Stop walking trail running behind memorial arena. The damage indicated that someone had sawed the light post off at the base. Damage is estimated at $1000.00 sometime overnight on the 18th of June. Warrant arrests:

On Friday afternoon a male youth attended the station to turn himself in on charges related to a shoplifting incident at a downtown business (ST25009604). The youth was arrested and later released on a youth undertaking with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST25010587.

On Friday afternoon special constables with the downtown CRU team located a male known to be wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for arson (ST24015705). The male was arrested and held for court and later remanded in to custody by the courts. Incident ST25010590.

Theft, Shoplifting:

On Friday evening Police were called to a downtown business for two separate reports of shoplifting.

Staff reported that a male wearing all grey clothing and black shoes had attended the store the day prior and left without paying for merchandise. Video to be provided and the matter is under investigation. Incident ST25010599.

Staff also reported that a male had attended the evening prior, selected ice-cream, and left without paying for the merchandise. Video has been obtained and a potential suspect has been identified. The matter is still under investigation. Incident ST25010600.
