Break and Enter(s):
On Saturday the 25th of May 2024 a homeowner in the west end of the city reported their garage had been broken into overnight by unknown suspect(s). Video was obtained of a male entering the garage and stealing an electric leaf blower. Video has been provided to police and the matter is under investigation. On the morning of the 25th a self-serve storage business reported one of the units had been entered overnight. Police attended and found that the lock had been cut on a storage unit and the unit had been riffled through. Video has been obtained that shows two suspects entering the compound overnight. Video has been provided to police and the matter is under investigation. On the evening of the 25th a complaint was received by the service that an outbuilding had been entered on a rural property within the city limits – taken was potentially some older/inoperable lawn care equipment. The matter is currently under investigation. Shoplifting:
On Saturday the 25th Police were called to an east end business for reports of a male shoplifter that had left the store after an employee had followed him and demanded the store’s property back. Police attended and a 38-year-old London resident was located and identified as the suspect. The male was trespassed from the location by store staff who were satisfied that the property had been recovered. Incident ST24008599.
On Saturday afternoon police were called to an east end business for reports of female shoplifter that had left the store without paying for merchandise. Police attended and reviewed store video surveillance and recognized the female suspect from previous investigations. A short time later the 34-year-old St. Thomas resident was located and arrested for theft under $5000.00 and breaching her previous release conditions by returning to the same store. On Saturday afternoon police were called to an east end business for reports of male shoplifter that had left the store without paying for merchandise. Police attended and video surveillance is to be provided by the staff. The matter is currently under investigation. Incident ST24008623.
Impaired operation:
On Saturday afternoon police were contacted to attend the downtown core for reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Through investigation police formed grounds that the at-fault driver had been operating a motor vehicle with alcohol in his body. The 68-year-old St. Thomas resident subsequently failed a test on a roadside alcohol screening device, and later provided samples at the station that were in excess of the 80mg limit. The male was charged Operate a Conveyance in Excess of 80 mgs and later released with a future court date. Incident ST24008604.
Disturbance, Fail to Comply with Probation:
On Saturday evening the St. Thomas Police Service was contacted regarding a dispute outside of a residence in the south end of the city. Police attended and discovered that several parties were involved in a heated dispute related to a male and female attending from London to argue with the female’s ex-partner. Through investigation, the 26-year-old female was determined to be in breach conditions of a previous release order by communicating with her ex-partner. The female was arrested and charged with Failure to Comply with Undertaking and later released with a future court date. The female’s current partner, a 29-year-old London male, was determined to be heavily intoxicated by alcohol and causing a disturbance. The male was arrested under the Liquor License Control Act. Warrant Arrest:
On Saturday the 25th of May the St. Thomas Police Service was contacted by members of the Oxford OPP who reported they had a 53-year-old male in custody on unrelated matters who also had a warrant for his arrest held by our service. The male was arrested on the strength of the St. Thomas warrant by the OPP and given a future court date in this jurisdiction. The male was held for matters pending in Oxford County. On Saturday evening, officers were called to a downtown location for several parties that were unwanted on the property. While speaking with an involved female party, officers learned that she was currently wanted on a warrant held by the London Police Service. The 36-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested on the strength of the warrant for LPS and later released with a future court date. Incident ST24008626.
