Warrant arrest

A 30 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday February 27th 2024, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant with our service for Assault with a Weapon stemming from an incident in March of 2023. The 30 year old was processed, attended court and was released with a future court date. ST24003074

A 22 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday February 27th 2024, St. Thomas police were called by London police who wished to inform us that they had the 22 year old in their custody on the strength of our warrant for Assault and Uttering Threats from an incident in July of 2022. Officers attended London to take custody of the individual. The 22 year old was transported to St. Thomas police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. Break and enter 

Two St. Thomas residents have been arrested after police were called to an address on Dunkirk Drive by the St. Thomas Fire Department. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday February 27th 2024, STFD were checking a residence that had previously been deemed unsafe, vacated and access to the residence secured. During a routine check of the property two individuals could be heard inside. Police attended and located the individuals attempting to leave the area. Both were charged with one count of Break and Enter and were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24003091

Fraud 

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an incident of fraud after being called to a retail store on Talbot Street on Tuesday February 27th 2024. Through investigation officers learned an unknown individual attended the store, selected merchandise and proceeded to customer service where a refund was issued for the merchandise. The total amount of the fraudulent transaction is $305. This remains under investigation. ST24003096

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the theft of a gold bar, value at approximately $5,000. On Tuesday February 27th 2024, officers were called by the victim who reported that after an agreement had been made to purchase the gold bar, the buyer and the seller attended the agreed upon location and once there, the bar was stolen from the seller. A 29 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. While on an unrelated call for service at a retail store on Talbot Street, officers were informed that an individual had just left the store with a quantity of merchandise they failed to pay for. Police located the individual a short distance away. Through investigation, officers learned the 29 year old was on conditions to not attend the address and had an outstanding warrant with our service for Failure to Comply with Probation Order, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Use Stolen Credit Card and Fraud under $5,000 from an incident in January. The 29 year old was additionally charged with Theft under $5,000 and two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order. Mischief

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an incident of mischief. On Tuesday February 27th 2024, St. Thomas police were called by a vehicle owner who reported that one of the tires of their vehicle had been slashed while at work. The vehicle was parked in the 600 block of Talbot Street. Police are continuing to investigate. ST24003127

Trespass at night 

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday February 27th 2024, officers were called to an area off of Centre Street to investigate the report of an unknown person attempting to enter vehicles. A description of the individual was provided to police and upon arrival, officers located a 28 year old matching the description. The individual was known to police to be on conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and was subsequently arrested and charged with one count Trespass by Night, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and two counts Failure to Comply with Probation. The 28 year old was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST24003129

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect themselves and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • Always verify the person you are corresponding with is legitimate
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App
  • If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a family member or relative, hang up and call the number you have for them.
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money or purchase gift cards.
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself

And remember if it seems suspicious, it likely is.
