Media release for March 12th, 2023

Break and Enter:

On the 11th of March 2023 Police were notified of a break and enter to a local church. Police attended and found that a door to the church had been forced open using a pry bar. The building was checked and at this time it appears that only a quantity of chocolate bars had been taken from the office. Vehicle entries:

On Saturday a homeowner in the south end of the City reported his unlocked vehicle entered in his driveway – taken was his wallet including identification and debit card(s). There were no witnesses and there was no surveillance video in the area. Warrant Arrests:

On Saturday Police were called to the St Thomas Public Library to check on the well-being of several people outside of the building. On arrival officers located a male known to them to be wanted on a warrant held by the St Thomas Police Service. The 34 year old St Thomas male was arrested on the warrant, transported to the station, and released with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST23003922

On Saturday afternoon officers on general patrol observed a male party known to them to be accused of stealing a high end bicycle from outside of a local business this past week. The male was also currently wanted on another warrant held by the St Thomas Police Service. The 31 year old St Thomas local was arrested on the strength of the warrant and the new charge of theft. Search incident to arrest Police located two knives on his person that were deemed prohibited weapons. The male was further charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and with breaching conditions of an earlier release order. The male was transported to the station and held for court. Incident ST23003924.

Assault with a weapon:

On Saturday night Police were called to a north end residence by a neighbour who reported a disturbance outside of the residence. On arrival police spoke with the neighbour who advised he had been threatened by a male with a knife when he attended to try and break up the disturbance. Through investigation a 20 year old St Thomas male was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and fail to comply with conditions of an existing probation order.  A female friend that was with the accused was recognized by officers as being wanted on warrants held by the St Thomas Police Service. Both parties were arrested and transported to the station and held for court. Incident ST23003934.

Disturbance:

On Saturday night Police were called to another residence for an unknown disturbance. On arrival Police located a male with minor injuries leaving the residence that declined to provide Police with any information. Residents of the home were also uncooperative with providing information. The matter is currently under investigation. The 21 year old male was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure and was discovered to be on a release order that included conditions of a curfew. The male is to be charged with breach of his release order.
