Media Release Monday March 13th 2023

Disqualified Driver 

On Friday March 10th 2023, Officers on community patrol were monitoring traffic on the roads when they conducted a traffic stop. Through investigation, it was discovered the 39 year old male driver from St. Thomas had been prohibited from driving after being charged with a driving offence under the Criminal Code.  As a result, the driver was charged with 1 count Operation While Prohibited and issued an appearance notice for court. The vehicle was removed and impounded. ST23003870

Arrest – Assault with a weapon update

On Saturday March 11th 2023, just before 6:00 PM St. Thomas Police attended a north end residence after a neighbour called to report a disturbance outside of their home. Upon arrival, STPS spoke with the neighbour who advised he had been threatened by a male with a knife when he tried to break up the disturbance. As a result,  20 year old Nicolas Derbowka has been charged with 1 count Assault with a Weapon, 1 count Possession of a Prohibited weapon, 1 count Fail to Comply with Probation Order.  While dealing with Derbowka, 39 year old Shaylee Murphy was recognized by Officers as being wanted on warrants held by the St Thomas Police Service. Both parties were arrested and transported to Police Headquarters and held for court. ST23003934

Impaired

On Sunday March 12th 2023 around the noon hour, an alert citizen called to make St. Thomas Police aware of a possible impaired driver. Officers on community patrol were able to located the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. As a result, a 34 year old St. Thomas man has been charged with 1 count Operation while Impaired – Drugs. The man was arrested without incident and transported to Police Headquarters where he was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23003958

Warrant 

On Sunday March 12 2023, St. Thomas Police were called to local grocery store for a shoplift in progress. Upon arrival, Police observed and recognized a 37 year old St. Thomas female who had an outstanding warrant with our service for a previous shoplifting incident. The female was arrested and transported to Police Headquarters where she was processed and release with a future court date. ST23003984
