The St. Thomas Police Service is Actively Investigating a Shooting.
Early this morning, at approximately 6am, STPS officers responded to a shooting complaint at a residence on Palm Street. Our frontline officers supported emergency responders in preserving a life and protecting the public from any threats. Upon arrival police learned that an adult male had been shot in the torso. The victim was immediately transported by ambulance to the London Health Sciences Centre. The victim went directly into surgery to treat his injuries. The male victim remains in hospital post-surgery, recovering in the ICU listed as being in critical condition.
Although we are unable to comment on any evidence of the investigation at this time, we can share some information regarding the initial police response. To be clear, due to the nature of the incident, officers with specialized training and equipment from the OPP were involved to support STPS officers. This OPP tactical response team offered enhanced capabilities as the ongoing response plan was carried out.
The St. Thomas Police remain on scene continuing their investigation, and actively work to identify and arrest the suspect(s) in this case. This incident is believed to have been a targeted crime and that there is no risk to public safety.
There is a need for the community and the police to work together in times such as this, and this morning that was very evident. The pace of social media and website forums can often assist in disseminating and sharing important information in a timely manner and that occurred this morning between STPS staff with the community.
