Theft from Vehicle

Officers were called to the Joe Thornton Arena yesterday after a vehicle was entered and numerous items had been stolen.  The vehicle had been parked only for a short time at the arena, long enough that an unknown person(s), entered the vehicle and stole numerous items.  CCTV is being reviewed in the area and the incident remains under investigation.  ST25015405

Shoplifter Arrested

Officers responded to a local retail food store shortly after noon yesterday in response to a shoplifter inside the store.  Officers arrived to find a 40yr old St. Thomas man that had previously been banned from the store.  A quick query of the male showed that he had previously been charged and released on 3 separate forms of release, all prohibiting him from being at the address in question.  Along with Theft Under $5000, the male was charged with 2 counts of Failing to comply with an Undertaking and 2 counts of Failing to Comply with a condition of his probation.  The male was held in custody pending a court date on August 28th.  ST25015419

Police are investigating after a bicycle was reported stolen from Elgin Mall on Wednesday.  The bike had been left unsecured while it’s owner ran into the mall.  When the owner returned the bike had been taken.  Police are looking for a men’s black Trek mountain bike with blue lettering on it.  CCTV is being reviewed and the investigation continues.  ST25015423

Impaired Driver Caught

Officers responded to reports of vehicle that had crossed the yellow line on multiple occasions and was fluctuating it’s speeds.  Officers were able to intercept the vehicle at a local hotel and spoke with the driver.  After speaking with the driver, it was determined that they had been consuming alcohol and were administered a road-side screening device.  After providing a sample, the driver registered a fail and was subsequently arrested for operating a conveyance with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood.  A 62yr old Burlington man was brought to STPS where he provided further samples of his breath into the approved instrument, resulting in a reading of over 1.5 times the legal limit.  After being served his 90 day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension, the man was released from custody with a future court date.  ST25015441
