STPS Media Release – Saturday, January 10th

We arrested a 34-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was processed and then taken to the Elgin County Courthouse for a court appearance. Ref# ST26000427

We arrested and charged a 34-year-old following a complaint of harassment. Through investigation the suspect was charged with criminal harassment and breaching a condition of their release. The individual was later released by police with a new court date and conditions. Ref# ST26000443

We arrested a 21-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant and they were later released by police with a future court date. Ref# ST26000448.

We arrested a 40-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was later released by police with a future court date and conditions. Ref# ST26000455

We are investigating a shoplifting from a retail store located in the 1063 Talbot Street business park. Store staff report that an individual entered the store and stole a pair of gloves and made no attempt to pay before exiting the store. We are utilizing store surveillance footage to further the investigation. Ref# ST26000476

We arrested a 27-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was later released by police with a future court date. Ref# ST26000477

We attended a retail store located in the 1063 Talbot Street business park regarding an unwanted person. We arrested and charged a 39-year-old St. Thomas resident with breaching a release condition for being at a store they were not supposed to be at. This individual was later released by police with a future court date and conditions. Ref# ST26000482

We attended an apartment complex on the east side of the city regarding a break and enter. Through investigation, we arrested 28-year-old St. Thomas resident with break and enter and a 39-year-old St. Thomas resident with break and enter as well as obstructing police for refusing to identify themself to police. Both individuals were released by police with a future court date and conditions. Ref# ST26000495

A 34-year-old St. Thomas resident attended the St. Thomas Police station and turned themself in on an arrest warrant. This individual was later released by police with a future court date and conditions. Ref# ST26000508

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money

Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself.
