St. Thomas Police officers spoke with a loss prevention officer from a retail store located at the 1063 Talbot Street business park. The officer reported a shoplifting where an unknown person wearing a black winter hat, black coat, blue jeans, black coat, with a red bag and an orange bag stole $225 worth of product and left the store without paying. St. Thomas Police officers attended an abandoned factory in the industrial section of the city regarding a break and enter. Officers observed an open loading bay door and checked the area with the assistance of the St. Thomas Police K9 unit. Officers followed a track with negative results. St. Thomas Police officers arrested and charged a 32-year-old St. Thomas resident with stealing copper wire from a business on Southwick Street. The suspect cut a hole in the fence to the business and was later located possessing the stolen property. The individual was later released by police with a future court date and conditions. In the early morning hours today, St. Thomas Police officers attended an apartment building in the north end of the city regarding a domestic altercation. As a result, a 24-year-old was arrested and charged with assault and mischief to property. No one involved required any medical attention as a result of the assault. The accused was later released with a future court date and conditions. Ref#ST24022566

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:
- Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
- No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
- No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
- No employer will ask you to invest your own money
- Be very suspicious if anyone asks you to pay them with gift cards
- Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
