Animal Welfare Investigation

Officers arrested an individual in connection with an animal cruelty investigation. Police liaised with Provincial Animal Welfare Services and as a result two dogs and two cats were removed from a residence under a lawful removal order. The accused was held for a bail hearing. ST26011849

Arrest on Outstanding Warrant

Staff at the Elgin County Courthouse notified police of an individual attending court who had an active warrant for failing to comply with a release order. The individual was taken into custody and later released on an appearance notice. ST26011465

Theft at Retail Store

Police responded to a theft involving several bags of groceries taken from a retail business. The suspect was identified on scene, and video confirmed the offence. Charges were laid for theft under $5000 and for breaching probation conditions. The individual was released on an undertaking. ST26011924

RIDE Program Results

A RIDE checkpoint resulted in 75 vehicles being screened. One roadside alcohol test was administered. Officers issued two charges for open alcohol and three additional Highway Traffic Act charges. ST26011933

Mischief to Property

Officers observed a large hole cut in a fence behind a commercial property in the downtown core. No evidence of theft or break‑and‑enter was found. ST26011949

Romance Fraud Investigation

Police are assisting an out‑of‑province law enforcement agency with a romance‑fraud investigation involving a victim who suffered a financial loss of approximately $18,000. The matter remains under investigation. ST26011951

Historical Assault Investigation

Police received information regarding historical child abuse involving choking and other concerning behaviour. The accused was arrested for assault causing bodily harm – choking. The individual is currently on release conditions related to a separate harassment investigation and was held for a bail hearing. ST26011956

Retail Theft – Clothing and Footwear

An individual has been charged in connection with the theft of several hundred dollars’ worth of merchandise from a clothing retailer. The incident was reported to Police after the fact and a warrant has been sought for the suspect’s arrest ST26011957

Impaired Driving Arrest

Following a traffic complaint from a concerned citizen regarding impaired driving, officers conducted a vehicle stop and administered a roadside screen device. The driver registered a “Fail” and as a result was arrested. They later provided further breath samples of 130 and 140 mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. Charges were laid for impaired operation, operation 80 plus, and driving with open alcohol. The individual was released on an appearance notice. ST26011970
