STPS media release for August 30th 2023

Theft

On August 29th 2023, a city resident called Police to report that sometime overnight on August 23rd, unknown suspect(s) had stolen their black Daymak Coyote e-bike from an address in the downtown area. Officers on community patrol located the e-bike in question and returned it to its rightful owner. Police continue to investigate the matter and review video. Bail violations

A 34 yr old St. Thomas man is currently wanted for breaching his release conditions. The male was allegedly communicating with an individual whom he is on conditions not be in contact with. ST23015396

 

Vehicle entry/theft

Sometime overnight on August 27th 2023, a resident on the south/west end of the city had their vehicle entered after a suspect smashed a window before taking a wallet inside. The matter remains under investigation as Police review video footage. ST23015397

STPS Officers took report of another vehicle entry on the south/east end of town. Unknown suspect(s) smashed one of the vehicle windows and took a number of items from inside including a wallet with ID. Police continue to investigate the incident. ST23015426

 

Warrant arrests

A 25 yr old female wanted by STPS was located & arrested by OPP. She was transported to STPS headquarters where she was processed and held for morning court. ST23015401

A 32 yr old female was located and arrested by London Police Service on the strength of an STPS warrant. She was processed and released with a court date. ST23015419

31 yr old Juan Currie, riding a bicycle in the downtown core, was located by STPS Officers on community patrol. Officers were aware that Currie was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants. After a short foot pursuit, he was successfully apprehended by Police where further investigation revealed the bicycle had been previously reported as stolen. Currie was transported back to the STPS station where he was further charged with possession of stolen property and held for court.  ST23015420/15421

 

Fraud

Police were contacted by a business owner who had been notified by their bank that someone had attempted to cash 2 cheques belonging to the business. It was determined that the cheques came from an old cheque book that had been previously been thrown out. The matter is currently being investigated by Police. ST23015303

Just a friendly reminder to shred or properly dispose of any old cheque books or financial information. 

 

Shoplift

On August 28th, loss prevention from a business in the 1063 Block of Talbot Street called to report a female party had taken a number of items and failed to make any attempt to pay for them. After reviewing store surveillance, Officers were able to identify the female suspect involved. She is now wanted for theft. ST23015335

 

Attempt break & enter

Police attended an address on the west end of town to take report of an attempt break and enter to a shed. Damage to the shed was observed however the suspect(s) failed to gain entry. ST23015360

 

Arson

STPS Officers attended a vacant Talbot Street address with St Thomas Fire Department for reports of a small shed structure on fire. While on scene, Police received information about a suspect leaving the area. Officers acted swiftly in locating the male suspect who was subsequently arrested & charged with arson. The male was later released with a future court date. The fire was extinguished without issue. ST23015370

 

Fail to stop for Police

In the early morning hours of August 30th 2023, a STPS Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark grey Audi for numerous Highway Traffic Act offences. The vehicle took off from Police and failed to stop. Officers located the vehicle unoccupied in the area a short time later and began an investigation. The vehicle has since been towed as Police continue to review video & investigate. ST23015417
