STPS Host 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

St. Thomas, ON – Wednesday August 27th 2025

The St. Thomas Police Service will be hosting our  Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics, on Wednesday September 10th at 11:00am

The Torch Run route with our local athletes will start at the west end of Talbot Street, make a special stop at City Hall for a photo opportunity, and conclude at St. Thomas Police Headquarters.

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run engages law enforcement worldwide, championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities starting first within their own communities. Through the partnership of LETR and Special Olympics, opportunities are created for athletes to empower themselves and transform their communities.

Special Olympics Ontario is the charity of choice for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Locally, the St. Thomas Police Service has a strong and valued relationship with Special Olympics athletes, connecting through events such as the Torch Run, Polar Plunge and various sporting activities.

“Our athletes demonstrate perseverance, strength and determination every day” said Inspector Kim Manuel of the St. Thomas Police Service. “It’s one of the most rewarding aspects of our profession, and we are honoured to host the Torch Run once again.”

The annual Torch Run is more than a community event, it’s a movement that unites people in celebrating resilience and promoting inclusion. The St. Thomas Police Service invites the community to join us on September 10th to cheer on participants and support our Special Olympics athletes as they make their way along Talbot Street.
