The St. Thomas Police Service is delighted to announce the successful expansion of our community volunteer program, Citizens on Patrol. This initiative aims to enhance community safety and strengthen partnerships with local businesses and our community.
Expansion of the COP Program:
The St. Thomas Police Service is pleased to welcome five new members to the Citizens on Patrol program. These new COPs have successfully completed their training, demonstrating their commitment to community safety and engagement. As valued additions to our team, they will play a crucial role in furthering the mission of the COP program.
COP Program Overview:
The Citizens on Patrol program, was first established in 2019 to create a visible and collaborative presence within our community. By fostering partnerships with St. Thomas Police Services, local businesses, and residential areas, the program seeks to identify and expand opportunities to deter criminal activity and reduce crime.
Key Objectives:
- Visible Presence: COP volunteers serve as goodwill ambassadors, fostering positive contact with community members and acting as a visible presence in the neighborhood.
- Observation and Reporting: Volunteers are trained as non-confrontational observers to identify and report suspicious behavior, contributing to the overall safety and wellness of the City of St. Thomas.
- Non-Intrusive Mission: The mission of COP volunteers is to be the non-intrusive, trained civilian eyes and ears of the St. Thomas Police Service.
