St. Thomas, ON – Monday July 6th 2026
The St. Thomas Police Service is proud to highlight the work of its Community Resource Unit (CRU), a team of Special Constables dedicated to strengthening community safety through visibility, engagement and partnership.
The Community Resource Unit provides a community-based response to selected non-emergency concerns while working alongside residents, businesses, community partners and sworn officers to help build relationships, address community concerns and connect people with available supports. With a strong focus on the downtown core and engagement throughout the City of St. Thomas, the CRU contributes to a safer, stronger community through proactive patrols, outreach, problem-solving and crime prevention initiatives.
The CRU also works in close partnership with the St. Thomas Police Service’s Mobile Outreach and Support Team (MOST), a collaboration that pairs police with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) clinicians and a St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) nurse. Together, they help connect individuals experiencing mental health, substance use and other complex needs with the appropriate supports and services.
The CRU reflects the St. Thomas Police Service’s commitment to ensuring community concerns are met with the right people, the right care, and the right resource. Through a combination of visible patrols, collaborative partnerships, proactive engagement and coordinated support, Community Resource Unit members help address concerns before they escalate while enhancing public safety and community well-being.
Community members can expect to see the Community Resource Unit engaging with residents and businesses, participating in community events and assisting with selected calls for service throughout St. Thomas.
