Rising Demand Pushes STPS to 20,000 Calls for Service Earlier Than Ever Before

St. Thomas, ON – Friday October 31st 2025

The St. Thomas Police Service has surpassed 20,000 calls for service, the earliest date in its recorded history to reach this milestone.

At approximately 09:35 on October 31st, 2025, the milestone was logged. This marks a continued upward trend in demand for police response across the city, reflecting the steady growth of St. Thomas and the increasing complexity of calls being received.

In comparison, the milestone was reached on November 3rd in 2024, November 12th in 2023, and December 12th in 2022. The year-over-year shift demonstrates a pattern of earlier and more frequent calls for police assistance within the community.

A historical summary of when 20,000 calls were reached:

  • 2019 – December 29 at 05:44

  • 2020 – November 25 at 07:14

  • 2021 – November 19 at 20:13

  • 2022 – December 12 at 10:31

  • 2023 – November 12 at 23:34

  • 2024 – November 03 at 08:05

  • 2025 – October 31 at 09:35

Based on current trends, 2025 is projected to set a new record for total incidents and events that require a police response by year-end.

With rising call volumes, the increased workload continues to place added pressure across all areas of the organization. Many incidents require extensive investigation, follow-up, and administrative processing beyond the initial police response. The cumulative effect extends to every section of the Service — from Communications and Frontline Patrol to the Business Office, Court Services, and Information Technology.

“The continued increase in the requirement for police services is a reflection of both the growth of our community and the complexities of the wide ranging public safety issues that our members are managing daily.  We remain focused on ensuring that we deliver responsive services that balances compassion with accountability.  We continue to apply the right person-right care approaches, ensuring the most appropriate human services agency is actioned to support those in need.”  Chief Marc Roskamp”
