Police Safely Resolve Weapons Incident at Local Hospital

St. Thomas, ON – Thursday February 5th, 2026

At approximately 1:15 a.m. this morning, police were called after hospital staff reported that a male in the Emergency Department was in possession of a knife and refusing to surrender it to security.

Officers arrived and safely secured the weapon, allowing hospital staff to continue care.

Later that morning, police were again contacted after hospital staff reported the same individual had now been discharged but was refusing to leave the premises, and was again in possession of a weapon. Officers were advised the individual had left the hospital prior to police arrival and he was located a short distance away.

Following further investigation, a 36-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault with a Weapon
• Uttering Threats
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
• Failure to Comply with a Release Order

The accused was held in custody pending a court appearance.

No injuries were reported as a result of either incident.

The St. Thomas Police Service wishes to thank hospital staff for their continued partnership in ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
