St. Thomas, ON – Wednesday October 15th 2025
The St. Thomas Police Service participated in Operation Impact 2025 over the Thanksgiving long weekend, a national traffic safety initiative focused on reducing high-risk driving behaviours and promoting safe roadways across Canada.
Throughout the weekend, officers conducted several RIDE spot checks and proactive enforcement initiatives across the city. Between October 8th and 13th, a total of 525 vehicles were checked. One roadside ASD demand was made, and no impaired drivers were detected during these RIDE events.
Two drivers were charged with impaired operation offences through enforcement traffic stops. One of those individuals was further charged with trafficking a controlled substance in addition to multiple Highway Traffic Act offences.
With the majority of our community driving responsibly, officers did lay a number of charges for various offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and Tobacco Tax Act (TTA).
A total of 45 provincial offence charges were issued, including:
- 15 for speeding
- 5 for driving with a hand-held communication device
- 4 for stop sign violations
- 4 for seatbelt-related offences, including one involving a child passenger
- 1 for careless driving
- 1 for failing to yield
- Several for document, equipment, and insurance-related violations
The St. Thomas Police Service thanks motorists for their continued cooperation and commitment to keeping our roads safe.
