Theft Investigations
Copper wire has been reported stolen from several new build, residential sites on the southside of the city. On Tuesday, we were contacted by an employee of a local building company who arrived to work to find damage at several of the lots and the copper wire stolen. This remains under investigation. Two bottles of Tequila have been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Tuesday morning, we were called to the store after an employee reported an unknown individual had left the store, failing to pay for their items. Video of the incident is available and being reviewed. ST25016328
A 29 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after being identified as the person responsible for stealing a gaming system from a retail store on Talbot Street on Tuesday morning. The 29 year old was located by officers on community patrol Tuesday evening. The individual was charged with Theft under $5,000, processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. $870 in scratch off lottery tickets have been reported stolen. On Tuesday, police were called to investigate the incident that occurred on September 7th. It is the second incident of this nature in St. Thomas this week, with a similar theft in Aylmer reported on the same date. CCTV of the individuals involved is available and being reviewed as we continue to investigate. ST25016340
Break and Enter
Eight small storage totes containing various electronics and cords have been reported stolen after a St. Thomas resident returned home to their apartment on Chestnut Street, to find the door open and the property missing. This remains under investigation. ST25016262
Warrant Arrests
A 37 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with our service for Theft under $5,000 stemming from a shoplifting incident in April. The 37 year old was processed and transported to the Elgin County Courthouse and subsequently released by the courts. A warrant remains outstanding for the individual after they were identified and charged with Break and Enter, stemming from an incident on August 26th. ST25016318/6338/15230
A 46 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday afternoon, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant for Mischief after causing damage to a business in the 500 block of Talbot Street on Monday. The 46 year old was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST25016287/16330
Fraud
A local business is out $980 after an employee fell victim to a scam. On Tuesday, the individual attended police headquarters to report the incident. Through investigation, police learned the employee received a phone call from a delivery company who explained that in order to avoid a significant late fee for a delayed shipping a payment of $980 had to be processed. The employee was instructed on how and where to deposit the funds. This remains under investigation. ST25016324
Stolen Vehicle Recovered
The 2019 white Hyundai Kona reported stolen from an address on the southside of the city on September 6th has been recovered. On Tuesday, we were contacted by the London Police Service who had located the vehicle, abandoned. No damage was observed. The vehicle was towed and the owner contacted. ST25016334/ST25016126
Arrests leads to additional charges
A 40 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday evening, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with our service for one count of Mischief after being charged in August. The 40 year was transported to police headquarters, where a search incident to arrest found the individual to be in possession of a quantity of drugs. As a result, the individual has been charged with two counts of Possession of a Scheduled 1 Substance and Failure to Comply with Probation. Assault – Theft
While investigating an assault that was reported to have occurred on Tuesday evening, officers were made aware of a theft that had also occurred. Last night, police attended a business on Talbot Street after an individual called to report they had just been assaulted. While officers were on scene, an individual known to the victim was seen leaving the area with their property. Further investigation identified the individual as a 29 year old St. Thomas resident. They were arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with Theft under $5,000. The assault reported to police remains under investigation. ST25016373
Failure to Comply – Youth Sentence
A 19 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged after officers on community patrol located them at just after 2 a.m. this morning on Talbot Street. The 19 year old is currently on a youth release order to be abiding by a curfew and to remain in their residence after 11 p.m. As a result, the individual was charged with Failure to Comply with Sentence and transported to police headquarters, processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date.
