Update – Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Pedestrian 

On March 17th, police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Hiawatha Street and Talbot Street, prompting a temporary road closure.

Upon arrival, the pedestrian was conscious and breathing but had sustained injury. EMS attended the scene and transported the individual to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Through investigation, including a review of CCTV footage, it was determined the pedestrian had the right of way while crossing the intersection. As a result, the driver, who remained on scene was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian. ST26004530

Intimate Partner Violence 

A 31 year old St. Thomas woman has been arrested following an incident on Tuesday evening. At 7:30 p.m. officers were called to a southside residence for the report of an altercation between spouses. Upon arrival, officers separated the involved parties. Through investigation, it was determined that an assault had occurred. Charged with Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Sexual Assault, the 31 year old was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and later released on an undertaking with a future court date. Suspended Driver – Obstruct Police

On Tuesday, officers on community patrol initiated a traffic stop after identifying a vehicle registered to a suspended driver.

Through investigation, police confirmed the driver had been operating the vehicle while under suspension. Further checks confirmed the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.

During the interaction, a female occupant became uncooperative and attempted to leave the scene in the vehicle. As a result, the male was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Driving While Under Suspension and the vehicle was subsequently towed. He was released on a summons with a future court date. The female was charged with one count of Obstructing Police and was released on an appearance notice to attend court. ST26004526/4541

Theft Investigations

A 15 year old St. Thomas teen has been arrested following a shoplifting incident on Tuesday. At 11:30 a.m. officers were called to the store for the report of the teen failing to pay for several items. Upon arrival, the 15 year old was charged with Theft under $5,000 and transported to police headquarters. While being processed, officers were made aware of an outstanding warrant for Assault stemming from an incident in 2024. The teen was processed on all charges and later released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26004533/ST24004543

Glass hardware has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Tuesday evening, officers were called to the store to investigate the report of an unknown male failing to pay for the item. Video is available and being provided to police. ST26004562

A case of beer has been reported stolen from a convenience store on Talbot Street. Early this morning, officers were called to the store to investigate the report of an unknown male failing to pay for a 12-pack of beer. Video has been provided to police. ST26004584
