Impaired operation

A 39 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday January 9th 2024, officers were alerted to a possible impaired driver. A description of the vehicle was provided and police quickly located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation, police formed grounds that the driver was impaired and requested a standard field sobriety test. The 39 year old performed poorly and was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for further testing which revealed the individual was impaired by drug. As a result, the 39 year old St. Thomas resident has been charge with one count Operation while impaired, was processed and released with a future court date. ST24000414

Recovered stolen vehicle

A vehicle reported stolen from a Princess Avenue address has been recovered. On Tuesday January 9th 2024, St. Thomas police were contacted by Elgin OPP who had located the vehicle in Southwold Township. Police are currently reviewing available CCTV of the area the vehicle was stolen from and continue to investigate. ST24000398

Mischief

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an incident of mischief after being contacted by a local business owner on Tuesday January 9th 2024. STPS attended a Talbot Street business and learned that on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m. an unknown person attended the area and was captured on CCTV puncturing the tire of a vehicle parked at the business. Warrant arrest

A 37 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday January 9th 2024, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for 3 counts of Assault,  Assault causing bodily harm and Uttering threats. The 37 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24000408

A 43 year old Southwold resident has been arrested. On Tuesday January 9th 2024, OPP London contacted St. Thomas police to notify officers the 43 year old was in custody on the strength of an outstanding warrant with our service for Impaired operation, Driving while prohibited and Driving while under suspension in relation to an incident in September of 2022. STPS attended London and transported the individual to police headquarters where they were processed on the charges and held for a court appearance. ST24000417

Prohibited driver 

A 27 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged following a traffic stop in the city, Tuesday evening. While on general patrol an automatic license plate reader alerted an officer to a suspended driver. A traffic stop was initiated and police learned the driver had been served a driving suspension in 2023. As a result, the 27 year old driver was charged with Operation while prohibited, Fail to surrender permit and Fail to have insurance. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days and the driver was released with a future court date. ST24000439

Vehicle entry

A purse and wallet have been reported stolen. On Tuesday January 9th 2024, through the online reporting portal, STPS were notified of a vehicle entry and theft. Police contacted the victim who reported their purse and wallet containing their personal identification and banks cards had been stolen from their vehicle and used at several locations throughout the city. Police are currently reviewing video surveillance at the locations the cards had been used as they continue to investigate. ST24000411
