Arrested
A 30 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following an investigation from last week. On Friday, police attended a restaurant in the downtown core to investigate the report of a male suspect making no attempt to pay for his food which was valued at $69.79. Video was provided to police and the 30 year old was identified as the person responsible. On Tuesday, the accused, who was in custody at police headquarters after being arrested for a bike theft, was informed of his additional charge for one count of Food Fraud. He was processed on all outstanding charges, transported to the Elgin County Courthouse to appear before the court and was subsequently remanded into custody. ST26002991
License Suspension
A 54 year old St. Thomas woman has been issued a 7-day license suspension after police were notified of a possible impaired driver. On Tuesday afternoon, a traffic stop was conducted with the accused who was informed of the concern. A roadside screening device was administered, registering a WARN. ST26003224
Theft
Two St. Thomas men have been charged with Theft under $5,000 after police were alerted to suspicious incident near the pathway and the railway tracks on Ross Street. Upon arrival, officers located the men inside a sewer after they had removed the manhole cover. The accused were in the midst of removing wiring and pieces of metal when police arrived. Both were charged with Theft under $5,000 and released on an appearance notice to attend court. The tools used to open the manhole cover and to remove the wiring have been seized. ST26003250
A cell phone ordered directly from a wireless carrier has been reported stolen. On Tuesday, the owner of the phone contacted police to report that after receiving notification their phone was ready to be picked up from a local shipping vendor, they attended the location to collect their package, when they were informed it had already been picked up. This remains under investigation. ST26003243
