No injuries reported after early morning fire 

Just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday August 15th, 2023 St. Thomas police received multiple 911 calls in regards to an active fire at an apartment on Talbot Street. Upon arrival, flames were visible from an window on the upper floor. STPS quickly alerted the other residents of the building who were able to evacuate safely as St. Thomas Fire worked to extinguish the fire, believed to be the result of a faulty air conditioner.  The tenant of the apartment was treated by EMS and ultimately transferred to hospital for a full assessment. No other injuries were reported. The scene was held by St. Thomas Fire Prevention officers. ST23014450

Break and enter 

A Generac Water Pump valued at $499.99 and White Colman Gas Powered Mini Bike valued at $599.99 have been reported stolen from a business on Edward Street. On Tuesday August 15th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called by a store employee who became aware of an alarm notification upon arriving to work. Video on site captures an unknown person wearing black pants, a red hoodie, grey t-shirt and a ballcap cut a hole in the fence of a secured compound and remove the items. Approximately $500 in damage to the fence was reported. The suspect can be seen in the photos below. ST23014458

Arrested

A 40 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday August 15th, 2023 officers at the Elgin County Courthouse were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime stemming from an incident investigated by STPS on August 7th. The 40 year old was processed and released with a future court date. ST23014465

Theft

A black Hyper Boundary Trail mountain bike has been stolen. On Tuesday August 15th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called by an employee of a restaurant on Talbot Street who reported that an unknown person wearing a blue t-shirt, black sweat pants and a ball cap walked up to the business, looked inside and then proceeded to get on the bike that was parked outside and ride away. The suspect was captured on video and can be seen below. ST23014478

Warrant Arrests

Two 37 year old St. Thomas residents have been arrested. On Tuesday August 15th, 2023 St. Thomas police attended a west end address on an unrelated matter when they encountered the individuals known to them to be wanted by our service on several outstanding warrants from incidents dating back to 2022 and earlier this year. Both were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for court. ST23014484/ST23014485

Theft

A concrete saw valued at over $1,500 has been reported stolen from a construction job site. On Tuesday August 15th, 2023 officers on community patrol were flagged down workers in the area who report that at approximately 10:30 a.m. an unknown person on a bicycle approached the work zone and took the saw. St. Thomas police are reviewing available CCTV camera as they continue to investigate. ST23014466
