St. Thomas police are investigating the report of an assault that occurred, Tuesday evening. It was reported that while staff were attempting to serve a trespass notice to an individual who had been continually causing issues and stealing from a west end retail store, the individual physically assaulted a staff member. Theft Investigations
Commercial mats at a local business have been reported stolen. On Tuesday, officers were called to a business on Talbot Street to investigate the report of an unknown individual attending the address on multiple occasions and removing the entry way mat. CCTV has been provided to police. ST26015347
A local resident has reported their wallet stolen while shopping at grocery store in city on Tuesday. It was reported that while checking out, the wallet was set down to process the payment and was then stolen. CCTV of the incident shows an unknown man, next in line, take the wallet and then proceed to leave the store. This remains under investigation. ST26015348
Two bikes with a combined value of $750 have been reported stolen from an address on Simcoe Street. On Tuesday, police were called to investigate the theft that occurred from the backyard of the address at some point in the overnight hours. ST26015357
Several tools have been reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a repair shop in the industrial area of the city. On Tuesday, the owner of the business called police to report that at some point over the weekend, the window of a vehicle on site had been smashed and the tools stolen. ST26015361
A St. Thomas resident reports the license plates from a previously owned vehicle are currently being used by an unknown party. On Tuesday, the individual attended police headquarters to report receiving a parking ticket with a photo of a vehicle with their old plates on it. The MTO has been notified and the plates reported stolen. ST26015378
$120 of meat has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Tuesday evening, police were called to the store to investigate the report of two unknown individuals failing to pay for their items. Video is available and has been provided to police. ST26015385
An 18 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following a shoplifting incident on Tuesday night. It was reported the individual had failed to pay for their items at a retail store on Talbot Street and had left the area on foot. Officers located the 18 year old a short distance away, in possession of the stolen good. Charged with Theft under $5,000 he was release on an appearance notice to attend court and trespassed from the address of the call. ST26015411
Warrant Arrests
A 29 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. On Tuesday, the individual attended police headquarters to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant for Assault, stemming from an incident on August 8th. Once processed, he was released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26015353/15196
A 59 year old London woman has been arrested. On Tuesday, the Kawartha OPP contacted STPS to report they had the individual in their custody on the strength of our outstanding warrant. The 59 year old had been charged with two counts of Assault, stemming from an incident in June. Documents were sent to OPP who continued the arrest on our behalf, releasing the individual on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26015384/11525
A 20 year old London man has been arrested. On Tuesday, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant for Fraud under $5,000 following an investigation from June. Once processed, he was released. ST26015388
A 45 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. On Tuesday evening, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for Theft under $5,000 stemming from a shoplifting incident in July. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and held to attend court. ST26015404
Fraud
St. Thomas police are investigating a bitcoin scam. On Tuesday, a local resident attended police headquarters to report the scam that began in March of this year. Over the course of the last several months, the victim had purchased gift cards for someone posing as a bitcoin investor, promising large returns. This remains under investigation. ST26015358
St. Thomas police are investigating the report of fraud. On Tuesday, a local resident attended police headquarters to report being notified by a collection agency of an outstanding balance with an out of province institution. The victim learned their information had been fraudulently used and contacted police. This remains under investigation. ST26015387
A local resident is out close to $100,000 after falling victim to a romance scam. On Tuesday, the victim contacted police to report that the individual they had been dating for several months had been using an alias and ultimately scammed them. It was learned that the individual had been identified previously for similar scams involving several victims. Additional information is being provided to police who continue to investigate. Vehicle Entry – Arrest
A 34 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested after being located with items reported stolen from vehicles at a west end business. On Tuesday morning, officers were called to the area after a business owner witness the individual enter vehicles and leave with several items. The 34 year old was located a short distance away with the stolen property. Charged with Theft under $5,000 he was transported to police headquarters, processed and later released with a future court date. ST26015346
Mischief
Damage to a vehicle parked on Oakmont Street has been reported to police. On Tuesday, the owner of the vehicle contacted police to report a slashed tire. Officers learned that at around 8:00 p.m. the alarm to the vehicle had been set off. The owner went outside to look at their vehicle and noticed the slashed tire. ST26015412
7 – Day Suspension
A 70 year old man has been served a 7-day driving suspension following a traffic stop in the city, early this morning. While speaking with the driver officers were concerned he was showing signs of impairment. A roadside screen device was administered, registering an alert. ST26015418
