Food fraud

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a fraud that occurred at a Talbot Street restaurant on Monday November 20th 2023. STPS were contacted after two individuals attended the restaurant in the afternoon for lunch. The two ordered approximately $100 in food and drinks but failed to pay and were seen leaving the area on foot. CCTV video is being reviewed to identify the parties responsible. ST23020519

Warrant arrest 

A 34 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday November 20th 2023, London police contacted STPS in regard to an individual they had in custody on the strength of our warrant stemming from an incident in October. St. Thomas officers attended London to process the individual who was then released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23020521

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the theft of a wallet. On Monday November 20th 2023, STPS were contacted by a local resident who reported their wallet had been stolen while shopping at various retail stores on Talbot Street over the weekend. The victims debit card had since been used to withdrawal funds from their account. This remains under investigation. ST23020536

Failure to comply 

A 56 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with two counts of failure to comply with their release order.  The individual is to be residing at a named address and obey a curfew, however they have failed to do so. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST23020541

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
