Traffic stop leads to arrests
Two St. Thomas residents have been arrested. Just after midnight on February 1st 2024, officers were alerted to a vehicle bearing a license plate that was not registered to the vehicle being driven. A traffic stop was conducted and as a result, a 37 year old St. Thomas resident was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance. A 55 year old St. Thomas resident was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance, Failure to Comply with Probation Order, 2 counts Driving while under Suspension, Use Unauthorized Plate. The two were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released with future court dates. ST24001519
Obstruct police
A 26 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, the 26 year old attended police headquarters and provided false allegations and information in relation to an incident police responded to last week. As a result, police have charged the St. Thomas resident with one count of Mischief. The individual was processed and released with a future court date. ST24001468
Theft
Two DeWalt impact drivers valued at $398 have been reported stolen. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, St. Thomas police were called by staff at a retail store on Edward Street who reported that at approximately 7:20 p.m. the night before, an unknown person entered the store and selected the tools and left the store making no attempt to pay. STPS are reviewing available video surveillance as they continue to investigate. ST24001472
A gaming system value at approximately $537 has been reported stolen. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, officers were called to a retail store on Edward Street to investigate a theft that had occurred. Upon arrival, police learned an unknown person enter the store and requested assistance from an employee to purchase the gaming system. Once the employee retrieved the item for purchase, the unknown person took it from them and left the store, failing to pay. This remains under investigation. ST24001513
Break and enter
A laptop has been reported stolen in an break and enter incident reported to police. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, officers were called to an address on Queen Street to investigate the incident. Through investigation and review of video surveillance, police formed ground to charge a 21 year old St. Thomas resident with one count Break and Enter and Failure to Comply with Probation Order and a 38 year old St. Thomas resident with one count of Break and Enter. A warrant has been requested for both parties. ST24001473
Warrant arrests
A 33 year old St. Thomas resident as been arrested. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, officers were called to a Talbot Street retail store for a shoplifting incident. Upon arrival, police learned three individuals had just left the store with stolen merchandise. During a search of the area, police located a 33 year old St. Thomas resident who was known to police to be wanted by Aylmer Police Service. The individual was arrested and custody transferred to Aylmer. ST24001478
A 28 year old St. Thomas resident as been arrested. On Wednesday January 31st 2024, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant with our service for Assault with a Weapon, stemming from an incident in September 2023. The 28 year old was processed and transported to the Elgin County Courthouse where they were released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24001483
Fraud
On Wednesday January 31st 2024, officers were called by a local business to investigate the report of the businesses fuel cards being compromised and fraudulently used out of province. The total loss reported is approximately $20,000. This remains under investigation. ST24001486
