A 31 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with 11 offences after an incident in the city, overnight.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. a 911 call alerted police to collision that had occurred on Elm Street. It was reported that one of the vehicles involved in the collision, failed to stop and drove away from the area. No injuries were reported. A description of the vehicle was provided to police who located the vehicle travelling in the area of Wellington Street and Hincks Street.

Responding officers activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle continued, failing to stop for officers.

A rolling stop was eventually conducted and the vehicle came to a stop at Myrtle Street.

While speaking with the police, the driver was showing signs of impairment and arrested. A search of the vehicle, incident to arrest located a quantity of suspected Cocaine. The 31 year old St. Thomas resident was transported to police headquarters where testing concluded the individual to be impaired by alcohol with breath samples exceeding two times the legal limit.

Through further investigation, police learned the vehicle was being driven without the consent of the rightful owner. The owner of the vehicle had left it at a local repair shop for schedule maintenance, allowing it to only be driven for diagnostic and repair purposes.

As a result, the 31 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with:

  • One count Operation while Impaired
  • One count Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • One count Flight from police
  • One count Failure to stop
  • One count Take motor vehicle without consent
  • One count Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • One count Fail to surrender insurance card
  • One count Driver fail to surrender license
  • One count Fail to stop for emergency vehicle
  • One count Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • One count Fail to remain
