Traffic Stop Leads to Drug, Weapon and Stolen Property Charges – Impaired Operation
A 43 year old Aylmer man has been charged with multiple offences after officers responding to a report of a suspected impaired driver recovered drugs, a prohibited weapon and stolen property.
Just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday night, the St. Thomas Police Service was notified by the Aylmer Police Service that a suspected impaired driver was travelling to an address in St. Thomas.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant held by the London Police Service and was taken into custody.
During the arrest, officers observed signs of suspected drug impairment and located drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and later completed a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:
- Approximately 0.9 grams of suspected cocaine
- Approximately 5.2 grams of suspected psilocybin
- A pair of brass knuckles
- A Mastercraft grinder
- Two Milwaukee wrenches
The 43 year old has been charged with:
- Impaired Operation – Drug
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Cocaine
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Psilocybin
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
- Disobeying a Court Order
At the time of his arrest, the accused was bound by a lifetime weapons prohibition.
His vehicle was impounded, and he was held in custody for a morning court appearance. ST26016492
Warrant Arrests
A 53 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. On Wednesday, STPS were called to assist the Huron OPP with the arrest of the individual who had been charged with Criminal Harassment. Officers attended a northside address and arrested the accused. Custody was transferred to the OPP. ST26016443
A 32 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. While attending court, officers were made aware of an outstanding warrant for the individual stemming from a stolen vehicle investigation from 2023. Charged with Theft over $5,000 and two counts of Mischief, he appeared before the courts and remains in custody on unrelated charges. ST26016446/ST23015142
A 34 year old St. Thomas woman has been arrested. On Wednesday evening, police attended an address on Queen Street for the report of a disturbance. Through investigation, officers learned a verbal argument between two individuals known to each other had occurred. The 34 year old was charged with Failure to Comply with Probation after officers learned she is currently on conditions to not communicate with the involved individual. Once processed, she was released on an appearance notice to attend court. ST26016489
Theft
A 54 year old St. Thomas man has been charged after police were called to investigate a theft that occurred from a retail store on Wellington Street. It was reported that the man had failed to pay for his item on this date and several other dates recently. Video was provided to police who identified the individual as the 54 year old. Charged with Theft under $5,000 and Failure to Comply with Release Order, a warrant for his arrest has been requested. ST26016450
An accessible, motorized shopping scooter has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Wednesday, police were called to investigate the theft the occurred just before 11 p.m. on August 15th. Video of the incident and the parties who took the scooter has been provided to police. Fraud
A local resident is out $80 after falling victim to an online scam. It was reported that when accepting a deposit for an item being sold online, the victim instead had money removed their account. This remains under investigation. ST26016569
