Local resident is out $1,500 after gift card scam
A St. Thomas resident has fallen victim to a gift card scam. The victim contacted St. Thomas Police to report an incident that occurred on April 25th 2023. The victim reports they were contacted by an unknown party who made a demand to purchase and send gift cards. Due to the aggressive nature of the unknown caller, the victim complied with the request and attended a retail store to make the purchase of $1,500 worth of gift cards. After the transaction was complete, the caller then demanded the victim attend an additional store and repeat the same transaction. An alert employee intervened and made the victim aware of the scam. Outstanding Warrant
A 34 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested on an outstanding warrant. Officers on community patrol were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of the warrant for one count Uttering Threats, stemming from an incident in February. They were place under arrest, processed and released on an undertaking. ST23006843
Vandalism
An apartment building on Parkside Drive has been vandalized. St. Thomas Police were called to investigate after building management reported blue spray paint had been used to damage to the mail area and surrounding property on April 26th, 2023. STPS are continuing to investigate. ST23006845
Damage downtown, arrest made
A 26 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count of Mischief Under $5,000 after witnesses report a person kicking and breaking in a window in the downtown core in the afternoon hours of April 26th, 2023. St. Thomas Police responded to reports of the incident and were able to identify the person involved, based of the description provided. Police located the suspect a short distance away and placed them under arrest. Once processed, they were released on an appearance notice. ST23006862
Theft
A bike, similar to the one shown here has been reported stolen from the Elgin Centre. St. Thomas Police were called around 7:30 p.m. on April 26th, 2023 to investigate the theft of the bike. The bike is described as a grey and purple supercycle outlook with dual suspension. ST23006867
