Media Release Monday October 23rd 2023

Mischief

On Saturday October 21st 2023, St. Thomas police were called to investigate the report of trees in the woodlot at the rear of Pinafore Park being damaged. Through investigation it was learned that the juvenile trees had been cut near the base with a hatchet or an axe. Parks and Recreation staff will continue to monitor the area.  This remains under investigation. ST23018574

Two car tires have been reported slashed. On Saturday October 21st 2023, St. Thomas police were called by the vehicle owner who reported that at approximately 3:30 a.m. an unknown person was seen on video surveillance puncturing two of the tires on their car that was parked in a parking lot in the center of the city. STPS are reviewing the available video to identify the suspect. ST23018594

The tire of a vehicle parked on the south side of the city has been reported slashed. On Saturday October 21st 2023, the vehicle owner contacted police to reported the damage that occurred in the overnight hours. ST23018636

Roofing nails scattered over the driveway of a home on the north side of the city have been reported to police. On Saturday October 21st 2023, STPS were called by the homeowner who reported finding nails all over the driveway of their home after driving over the nails. A canvas for video surveillance of the area was conducted. This remains under investigation. ST23018653

Theft

Approximately $119 worth of gas has been reported stolen. On Friday October 20th 2023, St. Thomas police were called to a gas station on Highbury Avenue to investigate the theft. Upon arrival and review of the available video, it was learned that an unknown person pumped the gas into their black Dodge Ram and left without paying. The suspect can been seen in the photo below. A pink Reebok jacket and a green bag have been reported stolen. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, St. Thomas police were called by staff at a retail store on Talbot Street who wished to report the theft. It was reported that an unknown person entered the store, took the items and left without paying. The suspect can be seen in the photo below. A package valued at $170 has been reported stolen from a porch on the south side of the city. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, STPS were called by a homeowner who reported the theft. The victim contacted the shipping company and was able to receive reimbursement for the contents of the package. ST23018702

Gloves and earmuffs have been reported stolen. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, St. Thomas police were called to investigate the theft that occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. from a retail store on Talbot Street. STPS are reviewing video surveillance of the incident and continue to investigate. ST23018703

A 33 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, STPS were called to a retail store on Talbot Street to investigate the report of a theft.  Upon arrival, store staff reported that an individual known to them entered the store with empty shopping bags. The accused was seen in the clothing area and the change room, then seen leaving the store with full bags of merchandise. It was reported that the individual was seen entering a black vehicle. The vehicle was quickly located and a traffic stop initiated. As a result, the 33 year old was arrested and charged with one count Theft under $5,000 and one count Failure to Comply with Release Order. The accused was held in custody for a morning court appearance. ST23018716

Fraud

A St. Thomas resident is out $3,000 after falling victim to a crypto currency scam.  On Friday October 20th 2023, the victim attended police headquarters to report the scam. It was reported that the victim responded to a social media advertisement related to an opportunity with a crypto company. Over the course of the month and several transactions, the victim became suspicious and contacted police. This remains under investigation. ST23018608

Assault 

On Saturday October 21st 2023, St. Thomas police were called to investigate an assault that occurred just after 2:30 a.m. Ppon arrival it was learned the victim, who was transported to the hospital had been assaulted by an unknown person after leaving an establishment downtown. STPS are reviewing video surveillance and continue their investigation. ST23018642

Arrested

A 27 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for Theft under $5,000 stemming from an incident in September of 2023. The 27 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST23018714

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 22nd 2023, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding probation and DNA warrant.
