Fraud

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report of a Facebook scam. Scammers are posing as trusted friends on Facebook, claiming to sell high-end items like vehicles and equipment at unbelievably low prices. These offers often appear genuine because the profile seems familiar. Once victims show interest, they’re directed to transfer money, only to discover the “deal” was a fraud.

Tips to Protect Yourself:

  • Verify the seller’s identity by contacting them directly through other means, like a calling or texting them.
  • Be cautious of prices that seem too good to be true.
  • Avoid transferring money online without seeing the item in person.

If you suspect a scam, stop communicating and report it immediately to Facebook and the St. Thomas Police. ST24021625
