Warrant Arrests

On Friday afternoon a 30 year old local female attended the police station to turn herself in on an outstanding warrant. A bench warrant had been issued after the female failed to attend court to answer to charges including Break and Enter, Assault Peace Officer, and Theft Under. The female was released with a future court date. ^1465

On Saturday morning officers on general patrol located a 41 year old St Thomas man that officers knew to be wanted. A bench warrant had been issued after the male failed to attend court to answer to eleven charges. The charges include multiple counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Use Credit Card (Fraud), and Fail to Comply with Probation. ^1497

Shoplift

Police are investigating after reports of two possible shoplift incidents that occurred on January 23rd and January 28th at a local business. Multiple pairs of shoes went missing on these dates. Staff reviewed video and observed the same male had been in the store on both dates shortly before the missing product was noticed. ^1452

Theft

On January 27th, a local resident called police reporting that a catalytic converter was stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in a parking garage in the city. Fraud

Police are investigating after a local resident reported being the victim of a fraud. The resident was alerted to the fraud after receiving notice in the mail of an outstanding credit card balance of $1299. The resident had not applied for this particular credit card and so contacted the company. He then learned that an unknown person applied for this credit card in 2021 using his personal information. ^1468

Fraud (Grandparent Scam)

A local resident is out $6000 after falling victim to the ‘grandparent scam.’ The resident received a phone call from an unknown person claiming to be a lawyer. The scammer advised the resident that her grandson had been in a car accident, was being charged with Criminal Negligence, and needed money for bail. The scammer directed the resident to withdraw the funds in cash and advised a Courier would be attending to pick up the money. An unknown person later attended the resident’s home and retrieved the envelope of cash. Shoplift/ Assault

On Saturday afternoon police attended a local business for reports that a male had threatened and spit on an employee. The employee recognized the male from a shoplifting incident on Friday afternoon and had confronted him with the intention to trespass him from the store. The male fled prior to police arrival. Police identified the male using CCTV footage as 31 year old Juan CURRIE. Police located CURRIE nearby and took him into custody without incident. He is charged with Theft Under $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Assault, and Utter Threats to Cause Death.  CURRIE was transported to the Colin McGregor Building where he was processed and later released with a future court date. ^1516/ 1476

Stunt Driving/ Warrant Arrest

On Saturday evening police were conducting speed enforcement when a motor vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer’s LIDAR (speed measurement device) captured the vehicle’s speed at 106km/hr in the posted 60km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted and further investigation revealed that the driver was currently wanted by the OPP for other driving related offences. An OPP officer attended to execute their warrant and the male was charged with Stunt Driving. As a result of the stunt driving charge, the male’s vehicle was impounded for 7 days. ^1529

Sexual Assault

On Saturday evening, a male attended the police station to report being sexually assaulted while at a residence in the City. As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old man is charged with one count of Sexual Assault. The man turned himself in to police and has been released with a future court date. ^1531

Bail Violations

Later on Saturday evening, police received information that a 27 year old female and a 33 year old male were breaching conditions of their release orders by being with one another. As a result of this investigation, both parties are charged with two counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order. A warrant is being requested. ^1538

Shoplift

At approximately 10pm on Saturday night, police were called to a local business for reports of a shoplifter. The female left prior to police arrival but was identified using CCTV footage. Police located the female a short distance away with nearly $200 of product from the store. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with Theft Under $5000. The female was later released with a future court date. ^1539
