Fraud

A St. Thomas resident has been targeted in an identity fraud case, where an unknown individual used the victim’s maiden name and a previous address to fraudulently open a credit card, accumulating $1,800 in debt. The fraud was discovered when the victim began receiving calls from a collections agency regarding the unauthorized charges. Fortunately, the victim has not suffered any financial loss and has taken immediate action by contacting Equifax and TransUnion to flag her accounts and prevent further fraudulent activity. Breath Test Refusal

On Friday morning, police responded to reports of a possible impaired driver in the north end of the city. Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, identifying the driver as a 62-year-old St. Thomas resident. Based on observations, police suspected the driver had alcohol in his system and issued a demand for breath samples using a roadside screening device. Despite multiple opportunities to comply, the driver refused to provide a suitable sample. As a result, the individual was arrested and charged with Refusing to Comply with Demand, an offense that carries potentially harsher penalties than impaired operation. Shoplift x 2

On Friday afternoon, staff at a local grocery store reported a theft involving a male suspect who stole various meat products and left the premises without attempting to pay. The incident was recorded on surveillance video, which will be reviewed by police as part of the investigation to identify the suspect. ST25007263.

A 34-year-old woman has been identified as the suspect in a shoplifting incident that took place late Friday afternoon at a local grocery store. Surveillance footage captured the suspect concealing multiple items in her backpack and purse before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay for the $138 worth of stolen merchandise. Police have reviewed the footage and identified the suspect, who remains outstanding at this time. ST25007279.

Assault

On Friday afternoon, police responded to reports of a family dispute in progress. Upon arrival at the residence, officers spoke with both parties and determined that an argument had occurred between a 55-year-old man and his adult daughter. During the altercation, the man raised his elbow in a threatening manner toward his daughter and made a verbal threat to strike her. Following the investigation, police arrested the male for Assault. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and was subsequently released on an Undertaking. ST25007264.

Impaired by Drug

On Friday afternoon, police were called to investigate reports of a male behaving erratically inside his vehicle. Officers responded promptly, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop. Upon interaction with the driver, a 30-year-old St. Thomas man, police observed clear signs of impairment. He was arrested without incident and transported to police headquarters for further evaluation. A drug recognition expert conducted standardized tests and confirmed the driver was impaired by a drug. As a result, the male was charged with Impaired Operation and released with a future court date. ST25007271.

Breach

An 18-year-old St. Thomas man has been arrested on multiple charges, including Failure to Comply with a Release Order and three counts of Failure to Comply with Probation. On Friday night, police were called to a residence near the downtown core in response to reports of a male causing a disturbance. During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect had threatened to remove his GPS monitoring bracelet. As a result of the investigation, the male was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a court appearance. ST25007284.

Fail to Stop

At approximately 11:20 p.m. on Friday night, officers conducting general patrol observed a blue Ford Escape traveling without front or rear licence plates. Police initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, disregarding a red light at the intersection of Ron McNeil Lane and Wellington Road. Mischief

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, a passerby witnessed a female suspect throwing a rock or brick through the window of a business near the downtown core. By the time police arrived, the suspect had fled the scene. Officers are now reviewing surveillance footage from the area in an effort to identify her. ST25007302.
